How to get rid of Melasma

Posted by Editor On August - 23 - 2009

Melasma is a tan or dark facial skin discoloration. It is a very common skin disorder.

Melasma appears as a dark, irregular patch of skin commonly found on the upper cheek, nose, lips, upperlip, and forehead. It may also be found on the neck, shoulders and upper arms. These patches often develop gradually over a period time. Melasma does not cause any other symptoms besides the cosmetic discoloration. The spots can be small or may they grow to cover large areas of the face.

Melasma is often associated with the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Although it can affect anyone, Melasma is more common in women than in men. Women are affected in 90% of cases. Melasma most often occurs in women during their reproductive years. It is especially common in pregnant women, women who are taking oral contraceptives, and women taking hormone replacement therapy during menopause.

It is also common in men and women of Native American descent (on the forearms) and in men and women of German/Russian Jewish descent (on the face).

Melasma can be extremely difficult to treat. Melasma is different to a mole and actually harder to treat in our opinion.

There are a number of treatments available for melasma such as topical bleaching creams, chemical peels, and laser therapy.

We DO NOT RECOMMEND USING CHEMICAL BLEACHING CREAMS TO TREAT MELASMA. They don’t work on the melasma and will often leave you with an area of skin which is lighter than usual where you have applied the cream- this will make the melasma look darker than it really is! Fixing the discolored skin is usually harder than treating the melasma.

From the naturopathic view, melasma is related to an imbalance within the body, possibly an overgrowth of fungus somewhere in the body and also the liver may not be functioning as well as it could be.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO TREAT MELASMA WITH NATURAL TREATMENTS. THE SPOT CAN FADE SO MUCH THAT IT NO LONGER BOTHERS YOU, AND THE SPOT CAN ALSO DISSAPEAR ALTOGETHER.

Some melasma are active and will take longer to treat- others may be older and less active and will go away rather quickly.

We strongly recommend treating the condition from the inside as well as from the outside. Get a good naturopath to tell you the right dosage and the right treatment for your individual condition.

The first step is a treatment to bring the body back into balance and to help control any area in your body where yeast has become out of control. Once your body is more in balance, use natural creams on your melasma spots and they will work a lot better.

Here at Friend-Health we have been researching a number of different topical treatments.

We have had success with a certain methods- and some are very effective, but they are rather involved. We are happy to share our methods- just email us if you would like more information or leave a comment on this page.

There are a number of different kinds of melasma- and they can react differently to different treatments.

In our experience- some natural treatments will make the melasma worse at first- but this is a usually sign that it is working- the spot can get darker, change colour, change size and shape totally, this can go on for 2 months or longer. When you stop using the treatment the spot should quicly become much lighter than it started and the spot can go away altogether. It is important to know what to use and what to expect so just email us if you have any questions.

We are always researching new and better melasma treatments so if you have cured your melasma with natural treatments we would love to hear about your experience.

If you are looking for ebooks about natural treatments for melasma, The Skin Lightening Report has a lot of effective natural skin lightening treatments including for treatments for melasma.

The method in the No More Moles Warts or Skintags ebook DOES work for melasma- but the melasma will react differently to the treatment than they way that moles or warts react.  We have tried this method for melasma and can give you a few tips, and there is a few things you need to know  so do email us, or leave a comment if you want to try this treatment for melasma.

It is possible to treat melasma with natural treatments, not easy, but definately possible. Laser treatments are also effective but they are expensive and there is some risk of side effects.  Natural treatments are not expensive and have little risks of side effects and little chance of scarring.

Hi, I am interested in whatever you can send me about a natural melasma cure. I’ve developed it in a ‘ring-like’ way, around my eyes… On my cheekbones, extending up my temples, and just above my eyebrows. I’m developing a patch in between my eyebrows now that appears to be creeping upwards onto my forehead. I tried Mama lotion last year for a few months but everytime I am near the sun (even wearing SPF 100) the area darkens even more. So, I haven’t done anything expect only wash and moisturize with natural oils such as lavender, neem, and rose hip. I’m so used to it now that I wasn’t searching anymore for a cure, but I saw a girlfriend last week that hadn’t seen me in a couple of years and she said that she suffered a similar staining and it was fungus related in her case (which I had never heard before). This is how I found your site, thank you God. Anything you can provide to me I would be greatful.
